what makes iced tea turn to syrup?
My daughter works at a gas station (we call them ice houses in Texas) where you can buy iced tea, coffee, soda, etc. When she started cleaning the iced tea containers, one sweet the other unsweet, they had both turned to syrup! These are the large, 5 gallon containers. The brand is S&D orange and black pekoe. I have never heard of this and can't find anything about it online. I am hoping you can shed some light on this.
It sounds like there must be some chemical in the iced tea that is causing it to turn after a period of time.... True iced tea, or home made iced tea doesn't do this in my experience, so I can only think it is something in the manufacturing or one of the ingredients.
Maybe someone else will chime in with their thoughts.
