Vervain Herb
Grown through out temperate North America, Vervain, also known as Verbena, is a perennial herb that has a large range of medicinal uses today. The herb can be found growing along the road side and produces small pale lilac colored flowers and has no perfumed scent.
Vervain has been used in spiritual ways through history with Priests using it in sacrifice, Druids including it in their lustral water and even being employed by magicians and sorcerers. Today it is used medicinally for many common complaints.
Vervain Tea
Vervain tea is prepared by steeping 1 ounce dried herb in 1 pint of boiling water for 10 minutes. The dosage for children is ˝ of what an adult would drink.
Vervain Uses & Herbal Remedies
A weak tea of Vervain can be used as a digestive aid and improve the absorption of foods.
Vervain is considered effective in treating colds and respiratory afflictions.
Vervain is traditionally used as a nerve restorative and is very helpful in nervous tension and may have a mild anti-depressant.
By aiding in digestion, absorption of foods and restoring the nervous system Vervain is particularly useful in persons recovering from chronic illness.
Vervain is said to relieve headache and migraines.
Vervain has a number of uses in association with premenstrual tension, menopausal tension, labor pains and building breast milk supply.
Vervain is traditionally used in magic work and is a common herb found on an alter and being bundled is used to ‘sweep’ negative energy from the alter.
Vervain Cautions
Vervain should not be used in pregnancy or if you have heart disease.
Due to lack of study Vervain is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Children under 3 years of age should not be given Vervain.
Vervain should not be used in combination with alcohol or barbiturates.
Do not operate machinery or drive until you know how Vervain affects you.
