Pennyroyal is a member of the mint family and the essential oil is cultivated and used in aromatherapy. Pennyroyal traditionally was used as a poison and a means to cause abortion in early pregnancy. The Pennyroyal essential oil, the part most commonly used, is highly concentrated and is then very toxic and ingesting even small amounts can cause death.
