Oregano Herb
Oregano, also known as Pot Marjoram is native to the Mediterranean region and central Asia. Used often in Italian and Greek cuisine, Oregano offers a warm and slightly bitter taste that blends well with the sweet taste of basil in many Italian dishes. The dish most widely associated with Oregano is Pizza.
Oregano herb comes from a perennial plant in the mint family and is most commonly used as a spice or seasoning and is often grown as a kitchen herb. There are many different varieties of the oregano plant and oregano herb. Oregano grows about 2 feet tall and can spread about 18 inches so requires a larger pot to fully do well. Click here to read more about growing oregano. The leaves can then be snipped off and dried to be used in recipes, dishes or made into a nice oregano tea.
Oregano Tea
Oregano herb tea is prepared by steeping 1 teaspoon
dried oregano or 3 tablespoons fresh crushed herb in 8 ounces of boiling water for 10 minutes.

Oregano tea was traditionally used to treat colds and fever as well as menstrual pain.
Oregano is commonly used today to treat indigestion, bloating and flatulence.

Oregano is thought to promote menstruation using Oregano tea, a poultice of Oregano can be used topically to treat menstrual cramps and rheumatism.
Oil of Oregano can be used to treat other ailments too. I have used it many times and it is great!

The medicinal use of Oregano is discouraged during pregnancy.
Oregano oils or used topically can cause irritation to the skin. Use common sense and caution and if you notice that oregano is having an adverse effect for you, contact your herbalist or medical practitioner to be on the safe side.
