Lobelia Herb

Lobelia, also known as Indian Tobacco, is a large genus of flowering plant found through out the warm temperate regions of the world.

Native Americans traditionally smoked Lobelia to help treat asthma and clear the lungs. Today it is still being considered for a treatment for asthma and clearing mucus from the respiratory tract. Lobelia is available in tincture, dried herb, capsules and extract forms.

An active ingredient of Lobelia is similar to Nicotine and is said to stimulate the nervous system and was used as a Nicotine alternative to help break the smoking habit. Other uses include inducing vomiting and were used to help treat food poisoning to rid the stomach of its toxins.

Lobelia is considered a toxic plant; however, it is used in holistic treatments in small doses and controlled measures.
