Laxative Tea and Breastfed Babies.

Tea Question:
I just gave birth and is breastfeeding my infant and my constipation is much worse than ever. I'm thinking of taking laxative tea to alleviate my constipation. will taking laxative tea affect breastfed babies?

Answer:
When you are breast feeding, anything you eat or drink, including laxative tea will pass to your baby.

I would strongly discourage you from taking laxative tea while breastfeeding.

You would need enough pumped breast milk or formaula to feed the baby while you are on the tea and it is passing through your system. This would go for any laxative you decide to try, including prunes etc.

You could harm your baby. Please consult your doctor and they will be able to help you with a course of action.

Hope this helps,

Teya
