How to Make Sun Tea

Google

So you want to learn how to make sun tea! Well we have put together some step by step instructions for you and it is really easy to do!

Sun Tea Basics

How to Make Sun Tea There are a few basic items that you need to make great tasting sun tea.

Glass Container or Jar - Yes you need to find a big clear glass jar or container. Plastic can and does absorb flavors and taint the flavor of your tea. So please don't use plastic. Clear glass is best as it produces the best quality tea.

Water - Use the best quality water you can. If you tap water is heavily chlorinated, use bottled water for best results. Carbonated water will loose its carbonation, so you will be waisting your money and your carbonated water.

Tea - This is where your imagination is your only limitation. You can use any type of tea you like. Green tea, white tea, herbal teas or traditional black tea. For your first batch of sun tea, black tea is your safest best.

Flavorings - You can add a variety of flavors to your tea, and sweeten it to your tastes. Honey is the sweetner of choice as it is liquid and easily blends with your tea as the sun heats it up. Lemon, chamomile, lavender, and other herbs and spices can also be used. Visit our Herbal Tea Guide for 100's of herbal infusion ideas for your tea.

How to Make Sun Tea

Here is the "how to" when it somes to making sun tea. It is really easy to do, but first you need a clear, sunny warm day. A temperature over 72 degrees is best. Anything lower and your tea will take a long time to brew.

Combine your water, tea, and flavorings in the large glass container. The tea and flavorings should be relative to the number of cups of tea that you are brewing. Once everything is in the jar or container, cover it with cheese cloth or a paper towel and secure it with an elastic. This will keep out unwanted bugs and bees.

Place the covered container in a safe warm sunny spot and let your sun tea begin to brew. It can be ready in as little as 4 hours and usually takes about 6.

Once it has taken on the color and taste you desire, simply take your container in the house. You can drink the tea right away by pouring it over tall glasses filled with ice, or chill it in the fridge for later. The tea should be consumed within 24 hours.
