Hoodia Herb

Hoodia Facts

Hoodia, a genus of over 10 species, is a flowering plant that is similar in appearance to a cactus but is unrelated. Many of the Hoodia species are protected and are native to the African desert land. Wild Hoodia is protected while cultivated Hoodia is exported under controlled growing conditions.

Hoodia is a thick stemmed succulent plant that grows to over 6 feet tall and produces a flower on the end of the thick stem. Traditionally Hoodia staved off hunger and thirst to African tribesmen and recently the properties that act as an appetite suppressant has come to the attention of the weight loss revolution. Hence the inclusion of Hoodia in many weight loss systems including hoodia diet capsules.

Other species of Hoodia are used as garden plants and are becoming recognized for their medicinal properties. Hoodia is available in capsule form, powder form and as chewable tablets as well as tea combinations and liquid extracts.

Hoodia Diets & Teas

Hoodia is used most commonly as an appetite suppressant and is found in most health food and diet stores. Hoodia is usually sold as a tea in combination with green tea.

Dangers of Hoodia
