Ginseng is native to eastern Asia and is a slow growing plant with fleshy roots that often are forked and can resemble legs when pulled from the grown. Siberian Ginseng is often confused with Ginseng; however the Siberian variety does not have the same properties and should not be confused with Ginseng.
Ginseng is also grown in the United States, however during the 1970s Wild American Ginseng was over harvested and became endangered. American Ginseng is being produced today and several states are licensed to produce and export it. According to Chinese medicine American Ginseng contains the Yin while Oriental Ginseng contains the Yang.
Ginseng has been used traditionally to improve athletic performance as well as sexual performance and has been used as an aphrodisiac for men. Ginseng has grown in popularity in recent years and is often an ingredient in many energy drinks and teas.

Ginseng can be added to teas or prepared as a tea itself by using thinly sliced Ginseng root and steeping in boiling water for 15 minutes. The cut and dried Ginseng is prepared the same way using 1 teaspoon dried herb.
