Drying Oregano

Google

The method used for drying oregano and other herbs to use as herbal tea ingredients, medicinal herbs, and general storage can have an impact on flavor, medicinal qualities, potency and effectiveness.

Best Methods for Drying & Storing Oregano

As with any herb, the time of harvesting oregano is critical. Make sure that it is dry when you harvest. There are a couple of options when it comes to drying this potent herb.

How to Dry Your Long Stemmed Oregano

If you have harvested your oregano with a long stem or branch, consider yourself lucky. Now all you have to do is tie the branches together in a bundle at one end and hang the bunch upside down to dry in a cool, dark room. Just make sure there is no dampness. Once dry, after 5-7 days, simpley strip the dried leaves from the stems and store in an air tight container. A mason jar works great!

How to Dry Your Short Stemmed Oregano

If you have harvested your oregano with short stems that you are unable to bundle, the process is a little different. First strip the leaves from the branches and place on a fine mesh seive in a frame. Place the oregano in a cool, dry, dark place for 5-7 days. Once dry, store in an airtight container. Plastic is not a good choice, so try to use a glass jar.

Your dried oregano is now perfect for a nice cup of oregano tea.
