Bromelain Herb
Bromelain is an enzyme mix that is found in Spanish Moss, Puya Raimondeii and the stem and fruit of Pineapple. Great attention is being given to the Pineapple fruit because of the attention of Bromelain and its medicinal properties; however, the greatest amount of Bromelain will be obtained in the stem of the Pineapple and not the fruit.
Bromelain is known to be an effective meat tenderizer and was historically injected into the muscle of an animal intended as food. Today this has been deemed unethical and Bromelain is used in the powdered form and sprinkled on meat or used in a marinade where the enzymes penetrate the meat and tenderize it.
Bromelain is also used medicinally as an anti-inflammatory agent as well as an anti-coagulant in the blood stream and arteries. Bromelain is primarily produced using the stem of the Pineapple plant in tropical areas that grow Pineapples such as Thailand and Taiwan.
