Bamboo Tea Strainer

Tea Strainer Styles

Google

Bamboo tea strainers typically are originating out of China, Japan, and Taiwan.

They are the most common tea strainers available in these countries.

The bamboo typically makes up the shell or outer section of the strainer, the handle of the tea strainer is also usually bamboo as well. These pretty little strainers - that are very natural and earthy in my opinion, are typically hand woven. This makes them very special and unique. Each strip of bamboo is typically hand crafted to make your strainer and the handle.

The actual strainer is either plastic, silk or metal. You can find a variety of tea strainers made of bamboo at your local Asian Grocer or online.

Bamboo is a natural product and absorbent. If the tea you are brewing touches the bamboo, it will permeate. Be careful to not due this or you can cross flavour future brews.

Bamboo also requires special care. It will crack over time, there is no way around this regardless of what a tea merchant may tell you. Do not put them in the dishwasher. You must just rinse the tea strainer under water and dry well. The water enters the bamboo and the swelling and shrinking is what makes the bamboo eventually crack.
