Pure Acai is a Powerful Antioxident
It is native to both Central and South America, Brazil, Belize and Peru.
Acai has been a food source for the native people of these areas for 1000's of years. It is a very dense food source, high in fiber, and is made into many drinks, juices, acai berry teas and added to recipes where a berry is called for.
Of course we are most interested in the teas that are blended using acai berries.
The acai palm is now mostly grown for the production of the fruit or berries. Acai berries are similar in size to a 'grape' but they have much less pulp.
700-900 acai fruits or berries form a pinnacle on the palm, and are all connected by stems. They are purple in color when ripe, but start out green in color, and are just small hard clusters.
They are used fresh and dried - typically in tea blends, the tea is infused with dried acai berries. Because of the rich purple color of the berry, when rehydrated into the tea, your tea will be a purple color - but of course will vary depending on the base tea used.
The berries are harvested and and used to make juice, smoothies, dried and the pulp used in recipes.
Fruit teas and infusions are becoming very popular and acai is an excellent berry to blend with different teas. Green and white tea work well with Acai, it is a very delicious tea. To read more about Acai Tea, visit our Acai Tea section. There are some great acai tea blends to buy too.
